Project #3 - Daydream Video and Artist Statement

Artist Statement:

My goal with this project was to challenge myself and to strengthen my skills in the Adobe Creative Suite through creating a fully hand drawn animation. I have had very minimal experience with animation in the past, having only created 2 claymation videos and never animating with a completely digital format. My concept for this project was to play into the idea of shadows and how they can change form and shape shift depending on lighting and reflection. I began the film with my main character walking around a beautiful lake/mountainous area. I used this setting and specifically chose to film a bit later in the day so that the natural light would emphasize the shadow reflected from the main character. The character then looks at their shadow and sees it moving oddly which ends up transporting them into the shadows world. The animation part of the video then begins with the shadow coming off the ground and standing next to the main character. Throughout the animation the shadow shifts into varying different forms and shapes with the means of messing with the main character and scaring him. Eventually the shadow and main character duel with lightsabers and the shadow ends up being victorious, chasing the main character out of the shadow world and back into the real world. This was a really fun project to complete and it definitely challenged me in different ways as there was lots of problem resolution when navigating Adobe Animate and creating the animation in general.
