I really enjoyed how author Rosa Menkman described glitch art with a very fresh and alternative perspective. She describes glitch art as a “wonderful and frightening interruption that shifts a technology away from its ordinary form and discourse.” When we first started creating glitch art in labs for Digital Art 2, I was a bit confused and unsure of how glitches and switching up imagery code could be seen as an art form. But now, after playing with forms of glitch art more and reading Menkman's article, I understand how intentional glitch creating can be, and the artistry and thought process that comes with it. I agree with Rosa Menkman that glitch art can be both wonderful and frightening. There is so much beauty behind the unknown of what type of glitch can be created, depending on how the artist tampers with different media forms and glitch techniques. I also really appreciate how Rosa touches on how glitches have been altered and visually different over the course of time. As technology continues to widen and improve, glitch art created even 5 years ago can look very different than how it appears now. I like how she touches on the reformation of imagery through glitches, too. Media altered through glitch techniques is formed into an entirely new thing or idea, which can open the door for fresh interpretations and perspectives on what the art is or what it's expressing. I overall really enjoyed the article; it helped me to better my understanding of glitch art and its artistic and creative qualities.
